The municipalities of the Mar Menor basin plan to complete the improvement of their sanitation networks by September 2025 with €20 million in aid from MITECO.

The eight municipalities in the Mar Menor basin that have received €20 million in aid from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) to improve their sanitation and treatment networks expect to complete the work by September 2025 , having reached an average completion rate of 20 percent to date.

The budget item, included in line 4.3 of the Framework of Priority Actions to Recover the Mar Menor (MAPMM), was transferred to the city councils of San Javier, Los Alcázares, Cartagena, San Pedro del Pinatar, Fuente Álamo, Murcia, Torre-Pacheco and La Unión , by resolution of November 2022.

Their representatives, along with technicians from the concessionaires executing part of the projects, participated in a coordination meeting with the Commissioner of the Water Cycle and Ecosystem Restoration, Francisca Baraza, and officials from the General Directorate of Water of MITECO.

The economic distribution of the aid is as follows:

  1. To each of the municipalities of San Javier and Los Alcázares , 3,750,000 euros .
  2. To each of the councils of Cartagena and San Pedro del Pinatar , 3,500,000 euros .
  3. To each of the municipalities of Fuente Álamo, Murcia and Torre Pacheco , 1,500,000 euros .
  4. To the La Unión council, 1,000,000 euros .
